Another Study Shows Why Natural Gas Is A Natural Choice

Another leading energy organization has endorsed the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel.

A study released last month credits natural gas as being “the one non-petroleum fuel for trucks and buses that is domestic, plentiful, affordable, clean, and-in its renewable form-fully sustainable.” The study was sponsored by Energy Vision, an organization dedicated to researching and promoting the use of alternative fuel sources to spur the transition from foreign oil to pollution-free energy sources in the United States...

From Research to the Road
New study shows heavy-duty trucks running on natural gas are the best way to reduce oil consumption

Washington, D.C. - based think tank, Resources for the Future and the National Energy Policy Institute, recently released the findings of its study, Toward a New National Energy Policy: Assessing the Options  focused on strategies to reduce oil consumption in the United States.  While many recent academic works have illustrated the technical possibilities of alternative energy, this study reports on the real action that will make the implementation of these changes possible...

GM Joins Fleet Frenzy
The customer is always right, and it pays to listen. After receiving several requests from their fleet customers, GM announced in May a plan to offer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)- and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)-powered versions of the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo vans.

GM has chosen to offer the Express and the Savana vans for fleets because of their size and function.  Kim Hill, Director of the Sustainable Transportation...

Reshaping the energy landscape
J.P. Morgan recently released a study addressing the current state of the oil and gas sector from an investment perspective. The study revealed that America has 8,000 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.  , and highlighted the developments that have been made throughout the U.S. shale gas industry, as well as those that are still to come. About 25 percent of J.P. Morgan’s resource estimate is economically recoverable at this time.  However, as technology continues to improve, that percentage will increase...

Center for American Progress Releases Study on NGVs
There are currently 4.8 million heavy trucks and 4 million medium trucks on the road in the U.S., consuming a total of 1.9 million barrels of imported oil per day.  Recently, the Center for American Progress (CAP) released a study, "American Fuel: Developing Natural Gas for Heavy Vehicles," addressing this problem with a solution - the development of natural gas as a transportation fuel...

Natural Gas Fueling Stations
EnCana, one of North America’s largest natural gas companies, is proposing the placement of natural gas fueling stations in Canada -- from the city of Windsor to the Ontario-Quebec boundary -- for the drivers on Canada’s Highway 401. New drilling technologies are successfully retrieving more gas from what was once thought to be inaccessible shale.  Therefore, ample supplies of gas are now available (and will be available well into the future) to serve the transportation market as well as all the traditional gas...

The Unnecessary Nature of Oil
The United States has an abundance of natural gas.  Natural gas is the ideal bridge fuel to the next generation of transportation power fuels.  The technologies currently in development, such as battery operated vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells, may not be ready for years to come and, while they, along with wind and solar power, are America’s ultimate goal, they are not an immediate solution to reduce our reliance on foreign oil.  Natural gas is ready to go today!

Dependence on Foreign Oil Continues
The United States imported 339 million barrels of foreign oil in the month of November alone. This translates into $26.4 billion that was sent out of our struggling economy and into foreign ones.  With 61% of our monthly oil consumption originating from foreign markets, much of control of the health of our economy is not in our hands.

In a recent article in The Guardian, the availability of adequate supplies of oil in the very near future has been called into question by a...

Natural Gas Reserves / Pickens Statement

New technology is making much more natural gas economically recoverable than earlier estimates credited to the U.S., a recent study shows.

The Potential Gas Committee (PGC), the non-profit organization that is the recognized experts on the subject, reports that the volume of America’s economically recoverable natural gas resources has skyrocketed by 35 percent from its estimate just two years ago.  Much of the spike is attributed to gas in shale rocks, sources drilling...

Natural Gas Caucus formed in the House
Congressmen Dan Boren (D-OK) and Tim Murphy (R-PA) have united to start the Congressional Natural Gas Caucus, a bipartisan effort to promote awareness of an abundant, low emission energy source. By increasing and expanding the many uses of environmentally-friendly natural gas, America can move toward greater domestic energy independence.  Reps. Boren and Murphy have begun recruiting other members of Congress and discussing ideas with natural gas experts.  Currently the caucus boasts 40 bi-partisan members...
